Turn the switch off in Telangana and Bangalore goes dark !
Bangalore may have to brace for more power cuts. And this time its because of the Telangana agitation. Workers of Andhra Pradesh’s Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) have decided to go on an indefinite strike over Telangana. The bad news is that the company supplies coal to the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) that is crucial for Bangalore.
At least 50% of the power supply to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) comes from thermal power generating plants like Raichur. “While the total energy inputs to BESCOM is 21,817 million units, we get 11,225 million units from thermal power plants. If the coal supply is hit, the pressure will be on hydel plants. The hydel reserves cannot be used up completely as it will affect the power situation in the future,” said MG Prabhakar, energy committee chairman, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI).
The centre should take a decision and form the Telangana state at the earliest or its not just Telangana or Andhra, even Bangalore is going to face the concequences.
