While IIM-B cites faculty constraints, IIM-A says political turmoil is causing the delay to set up campus.
According to Business standard, IIM-A Director Samir Barua was noted saying, “The Andhra Pradesh government did offer us land to set up a campus in Hyderabad. However, ever since the political turmoil, things have been more or less at a status quo. We are now waiting for a revival in response from the government’s side. It’s not that we have dropped the plans altogether.”
IIM Bangalore (IIM-B), too, has declined the state’s offer of land for a campus, citing faculty constraints. “We thought about it, but finally said no to the proposal. Our bottleneck is faculty. We are on the look-out for quality faculty members even now. It will not be advisable to split faculty members between two campuses,” IIM-B Director Pankaj Chandra said.
When IIM-B has no problems with the socalled ‘political turmoil’, IIM-A and the government blame the delay on Telangana issue.
“We have received the proposal from the Andhra Pradesh government and we are in talks for the next step forward,” IISc Registrar Mohan Das said. According to sources, the institute has been shown four or five land parcels and is keen on a 1,000-acre plot that is on the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border.
Incidentally, the Ghaziabad-based Institute of Management Technology (IMT) has accepted the state government’s invitation and is in an advanced stage of setting up its campus in Hyderabad — its third in the country. “We are about to begin construction on a 30-acre plot in Hyderabad. It has been over a year since the state government offered us the land. We hope the new campus will be operational by 2011,” IMT Ghaziabad Director Anwar Ali said.
It was also mentioned in the article that the government has been pre-occupied with its own internal affairs which is causing the delay.
We do not have bandhs anymore and all the Telangana protests are peaceful. So, one wonders why the media is publicizing things as if Telangana row is delaying the process. Yet again, Telangana seems to have become the soft target!

In the end everything is politically motivated and dominated this is the most unfortunate but truth of Indian democracy that everything is politicised. If we compare the law and order situation UP and Bihar r the worst states compared to any of South indian states. Every central institution goes first to North Indian states and our leaders r spineless they cannot talk of this discrimination. Be it Military Offices or it is Industry anything related to central govt. is in UP and north indian states. How long we can be quite? The worst crimes are in UP the highest crime rate is in UP still it gets the lions share why? Just because of political lobbying nothing else. In the past 60 years of Independant India's history shows that important ministries never given to South Indians and our Leaders who talk of Selfrespects never talk of this. Sahme on u leaders.
