Election Commission may decide to hold byelections only in nine out of 12 Assembly seats

According to the rule book, if there are election petitions pending in high court, the Election Commission may decide to wait for the judgment before conducting the bypolls. So, the Election Commission may decide to hold byelections only in nine out of 12 Assembly seats in Telangana going to polls as three of the constituencies—Vemulvada, Sircilla and Warangal West— are embroiled in legal issues.

Presently, petitions are pending against Ch Ramesh who had won on TDP ticket from Vemulavada constituency in Karimnagar pertaining to his nationality. It was contended that he was a German national. Ramesh had resigned from the Assembly in February in support of T state and subsequently quit TDP and joined TRS. He is likely to be given ticket from here again.

In Sircilla, from where TRS chief K Chandrasekhar’s son K T Rama Rao contested and won, the defeated independent candidate K K Mahender Reddy filed a case stating that there was largescale rigging and bogus voting.

In Warangal West, Lok Satta candidate P Kodanda Rama Rao had filed a petition with the EC against Vinay Bhaskar of TRS who won by a margin of 6,684 votes alleging that he had exceeded the expenditure limits during campaign.
