Why The Merger Has Not Completed Even After Six Decades?

It is said that time has a significance within it which can heel any wound irrespective of the wound’s impact on human life. One can notice it widely that, be it enmity, bitterness or any negative feeling or even sometimes the affection itself start to diminish and eventually disappears by the time passes, in fact this is one of the best remedies / medicine given by The Almighty to the mankind.

Having said this, this natural therapy has no impact on some specific areas and cases and one of such cases / issues is the merger of Telugu speaking districts of Madras state in to Hyderabad State thus forming the state of Andhra Pradesh. Even six decades after the merger, why the division and distance between the regions has not been parted, one has to think seriously on this issue. The time has come to think seriously leaving aside everything, where the former Hyderabad state and today’s Telangana is wounded and why the wounds is not heeled? Why the two region people didn’t mingle up in six decades and not left any room for separation? Why the thin line of differences has become so wide that the gulf has reached to a stage where it is impossible to bridge the gulf between the regions and people and the only solution left is to separate? The important point is those who say; the discrimination on the allocation and availing the facility of water, funds, jobs and development etc. is almost common and is evident in many of the states in India, and in some cases it is mere sense of inferiority, had never gave a thought on why the same language speaking people and having almost the same cultural background are not united as one Telugu Jaati even after six decades why the separation movement has its presence and why the people of a particular region are still keeping the separation movement alive? What are reasons to why the people are ready to get killed or killing themselves for the separation?

These types of questions needs serious attention from the intellectuals of the state and country, which should be debated and answered thoroughly, and let the whole nation, know the answers. As an individual it doesn’t seems to me the division is only due to the discrimination in jobs, water resources, funds allocation or development and infrastructure or educational institutions etc. but there is something else which is bigger than this, preventing people to mingle and accept each other, although the law of the land permits the citizen to live and work anywhere in the country, but the law of the nature needs the societies and communities to be united like a family to prosper, but those migrated from the Telugu speaking districts to Hyderabad state miserably failed in doing so, that seems to be their superiority nature and inability of acceptance and respecting the culture of the local Hyderabadis and equal opportunity in the governance.

Those came from the Seemandhra districts brought their own culture and established as is in their places where they live and kept themselves away from mingling with the locals and moreover they have posed as their culture is superior than to the locals, and When this area is attacked or wounded or left uncared then naturally the people start searching for ‘self respect and self rule’, I think this is one of the basic reason the agitation is still alive and people are keeping it alive even by giving their own lives. Even in good times (when there was no agitation for separation) nobody from Telangana region wished or liked to go to Andhra regions for livelihood, whereas lakhs migrated from Seemandhra initially to Hyderabad and later to other dist. of Telangana and the locals migrated to many places in India and other parts of the world but not dared or not felt comfortable to migrate to Seemandhra, this signifies how deeply the people are hurt with the behaviour of these Andhras (the SA is a bit new name initially it was only Andhrawale or Andhrollu for these people) since the merger. This is on the people to people level, then what about the official of governmental level? It is not a different story either instead it is even worse than this. No Telangana culture or history at all in any school / college text books, no celebration of any Telangana festivals (except the Bonalu in Hyderabad city), majority of Telanganite was not aware till recently when the former Hyderabad state was liberated, and neither the state govt. ever tried to pinpoint or celebrate that liberation day or at least greeted the people on this day. The common man of Telangana still feels his forefathers were under the rule of Nizam and then under Seemandhra, when we will have our own self rule?

School syllabus is full of either British India history or full of Telugu leaders and writers etc. from former Madras State. There was and is no place for any of the Telangana historian or intellectual or anything related to Telangana festivals or any personality. The Seemandhras have decide who the first Telugu poet is, and who the first writer is and who the reformist is therefore, even before understanding who he or she is, a child start to know about the Seemandhra personalities as Aadi Kavi is Nannaiah, the first reformist is Veeresha Lingam Pantulu hence, we know about Gurajada Apparao, we know about Tirupati Venkata Kavulu, we know about Chemakura Venkta Kavi we know about Reddy Rajulu, we know about Brahma Naidu, but we do not know about Rudrama Devi (except a brief, which says they have established Kakatiya dynasty which ended in this year), Not much written about Potana, Suravaram also ignored because he is from Telangana not because of his association with some political parties, because of the school syllabus, every Telanganite knew about the Holy Places from Seemandhra e.g. Tirupati, Sri Sailam and Sri Kalahasti and Bhadrachalam and many more from the childhood, but till somebody banged on the discriminative policy of the state govt. nobody knew about Sammakka Sarlamma Jatara and it was just because Sammakka is a deity worshipped in Telangana not in Seemandhra. The same issue is with the Raja Rajeshwara Temple of Vemulavada, Narsimha Swamy of Yadagirigutta and the same is with Komaravelli Mallanna. Differentiating in the Deities and Gods by region is only possible for the Seemandhra governments and only a solid proof for their arrogance.

There are lots of issues to be written but I am afraid due to the size I will limit by adding a few more things only.

The question to the reader is; why the wounds of Telangana natives not heeled even after 6 decades? Why the common man even today is ready for separation and already demanding the separation very strongly? Isn’t it the right time for the intellectuals to think seriously about this situation? How long this will continue?

The list of questions is endless but there is no answer from the serious people but yes some non serious elements will jump to comment with some vulgar and third grade Tollywood movies language and dialogues.

However, the Fazal Ali Commission’s report itself suggested these issues somewhere 60 years ago which I will detail in the next article.
