Muslims support TRS irrespective of it joining hands with the BJP

Muslims in Telangana districts are in a dilemma about who to vote for, principally because the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, whose pro-Telangana stance most would naturally support, has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is seen as communal.

Muslims are a force to reckon with in half of the 12 Assembly segments going for in for a bypoll on July 27. More than 18 per cent of the population in Vemulawada, Sircilla and Korutla constituencies in Karimnagar district is Muslim and their vote can change the fortunes of candidates.

Muslims are sailing with the TRS and in many villages with a large Muslim presence, they have participated in the Joint Action Committees formed to take forward the Telangana issue.

“Our support for the Telangana cause must continue irrespective of the TRS joining hands with the BJP. This election is different and Muslims should understand the predicament in the correct perspective,” said Mr Ilias of Dharmaram village in Dharmapuri constituency.

In the Nizamabad constituency, a large number of muslims were seen holding the BJP flags and shouting the Telangana slogans. When asked whom they would vote, one elderly woman replied, “I know that if I need to vote for Telangana, I need to vote for flower. Party is not important. We want to vote for Telangana and so have decided to vote for BJP.”
