With no need for conducting re-poll in any of the 12 Assembly constituencies in the Telangana region that went to polls on Tuesday, the Election Commission announced that counting of votes will commence as scheduled on July 30th at 8 a.m.
Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao, who reviewed arrangements for counting of votes with District Collectors on Wednesday, said the first result was expected to be out in three hours by 11 a.m. and the last by 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. on Friday.
Meanwhile the Election Commission secured the final polling percentages for all the constituencies from the District Collectors concerned. The overall poll percentage was 66.67 as against 66.32 per cent in 2009 elections, Mr. Subba Rao said.
All the strong rooms where EVMs and ballot boxes were kept safely after the polling, were provided with CCTVs with monitors kept outside for the polling agents to keep a watch. The entire counting process would be recorded and every counting centre would have a media and data centre from where information would be fed every hour. No mobile phones would be allowed inside the counting centres.
