TRS to revive Telangana agitation after Sankranthri

TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao has declared that the Telangana agitation would be revived and intensified after the ‘Sankranthi’ festival next week. KCR blasted the UPA government for being insensitive to the aspirations of the people of the region. “It is unfortunate that the government is insensitive to our agitation. We blocked roads, went on fasts and carried on a prolonged strike. Since the government has not made its intentions clear, we will intensify the agitation after ‘Sankranti’ festival,” he said, adding that the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) would meet either on January 18 and come out with a plan of action for the future.

The TRS chief claimed that the movement was only going through a temporary break since the Prime Minister and other top leaders had sought some time to finalise their decision on the separate statehood issue. He said that government employees from the region who struck work for almost 45 days to paralyse the administration, were willing to join the movement again. On the recent visit of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to Warangal and the proposed 48-hour fast beginning Tuesday by YSR Congress (YSRC) chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in Nizamabad district, KCR said these leaders from the other regions of the state were undertaking such exercises only to project a picture showing that the separate statehood movement had weakened. In a related development, Harish Rao declared that the party would oppose Jagan’s fast in Armoor.

Replying to the allegations that TRS and YSRC had arrived at a tacit understanding, Harish Rao said: “Let him first apologise for his opposition to the formation of Telangana in the Lok Sabha and then take up his fast or whatever.”

Our party has consistently opposed leaders who were against Telangana, be it Kiran Kumar Reddy, Naidu, Chiranjeevi or Jagan. We do not differentiate between leaders who oppose Telangana,” he said.
