Congress is merely biding its time to put off Telangana issue

Congress has no desire to give Telangana statehood and is merely biding its time to put off the issue. Setting up of committees like Srikrishna Committee was just an eyewash. In contrast, BJP has been committed to separate Telangana state and if it comes to power at the Centre in next elections, it would at once announce statehood for the region, said BJP national president Nitin Gadkari.

After flagging off BJP’s ‘Telangana Poru Yatra’ launched by its AP president Kishan Reddy at Krishna village in Maganuru mandal in the district on Thursday, Gadkari addressed a public meeting at Matkal.

Earlier, Kishan Reddy unveiled the statue of Krushnamma Thalli on the banks of the River Krishna at Krishna village and conducted special puja at Dattatreya Swamy temple. Thereupon, he collected Krishna water in vessels and embarked on his 3,500-km Poru Yatra.

Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, Kishan Reddy said the objective of his yatra was to rally the Telangana people to mount pressure on the UPA government for a resolution in Parliament on their statehood demand.

Kishan Reddy will tour across Telangana and address various public meetings during the 22-day yatra which would conclude in Hyderabad on February 11. He said that prominent BJP leaders from others and the CMs of Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would address the public meetings.

T-JAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram said the two yatras in Telangana held by Seemandhra leaders Chandrababu Naidu and Jaganmohan Reddy could only take place with the presence of heavy security. Former TDP leader Nagam Janardhana Reddy and Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi president Manda Krishna Madiga and others also spoke.
